Caranya penggunaannya cukup mudah. Terdapat 2 tombol menggunakannya. Tekan tombol ON, lalu masukkan dokumen atau gambar yang ingin di scan dalam lubang scanner. Dokumen atau gambar tersebut akan mulai ter-scan. Simpan filenya di folder manapun yang Anda mau. Sekarang file tersebut sudah siap dikirim via email atau hanya menjadi dokumentasi pribadi di laptop Anda.

Anda bisa menggunakan scanner ini untuk scan dokumen dan mengubahnya dalam bentuk file dengan format jpeg/ gif/ tiff/ bmp. Selain itu Scanner portable Plustek S400 ini memiliki tambahan tombol Pdf. Fungsi tombol Pdf ini adalah untuk menyimpan hasil scan Anda menjadi format Pdf. Canggihnya lagi adanya Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software ABBYY Fine Reader 9.0, bisa mengubah file Pdf yang Anda simpan tersebut dapat diedit Microsoft Office format.
